Travel Phone
Make the identity disposable. Not the device.
Your smartphone carries your identity, accounts, messages, photographs, documents, payment services, location history and access to the systems you use every day. When you travel, that becomes unnecessary exposure. Travel Phone gives you a controlled, temporary device — one that carries only what the journey requires and can be returned to a clean state when you get home.
Why Carry Your Digital Life When You Don’t Need To?
Your everyday smartphone may contain:
- Primary Google, Microsoft or other online identities
- Personal communications and contacts
- Photographs and documents
- Banking and payment applications
- Authentication information
- Browser history and active sessions
- Location and travel history
- Years of accumulated personal data
Only take the digital identity and information you actually need for the journey.
Travel Phone is designed around a simple principle. Your everyday phone stays at home. Your travel phone becomes a controlled, temporary digital environment.
The Alternative to the Traditional Burner Phone
A conventional burner-phone approach can mean buying another device for every trip, spending hours configuring it, paying for hardware you may use temporarily, repeating the same setup and eventually disposing of the electronics. The NALITS approach is designed around a reusable lifecycle.
The phone is reusable. The travel identity is temporary. The data is controlled. The configuration is repeatable.
Who Is It For?
Security-conscious travellers
Travel without taking your primary digital identity with you. Use a dedicated device for the journey and return it to a clean baseline afterwards.
International business travellers
Keep your everyday smartphone and personal data out of the travel environment while still having access to the applications and communications you actually need.
Security conferences & events
Black Hat, DEF CON and similar events are places where networks and systems are unfamiliar. A dedicated travel phone gives you a controlled alternative to taking your personal device.
Security researchers & technical teams
Create repeatable travel profiles for controlled environments, communications and approved security tooling — without taking your everyday device.
Organisations with travel-risk policies
Give employees a repeatable, centrally managed travel-device process rather than relying on every traveller to manually prepare and sanitise a phone.
The Travel Lifecycle
A repeatable, verifiable journey from home to destination and back.
Prepare before you travel
Choose the travel profile for your journey.
- Approved applications and security settings
- Communications requirements
- Payment requirements
- What data may be retained on return
Travel with a temporary identity
At the destination, the travel environment is a controlled, temporary setup — not a second copy of your everyday digital life.
- Activate the travel environment
- Insert the local SIM where required
- Use temporary travel accounts
- Use only the applications required for the journey
- Keep personal data to a minimum
Switch it off when the journey ends
The return process is deliberately designed to happen at home rather than casually wiping the device in a hotel, airport or destination country.
Bring back only what matters
Connect the phone to the NALITS travel station and choose what you want to retain. The system is designed around selective retention, not “copy everything”.
- Selected photographs
- Selected documents
- Travel records
- Approved research reports
- Other explicitly retained files
Verify the backup
The selected data is extracted, protected and verified before the phone is sanitised. A successful return workflow is not reported simply because a copy operation completed — the retained data must be verified.
Sanitise the travel phone
Once the approved data has been safely retained, the travel state can be removed depending on the configured policy.
- Temporary Google and Microsoft accounts
- Application data, browser history and cookies
- Authentication tokens
- Messages, contacts and wallet configuration
- Cached travel data
Repeatability Is the Point
The value is not just security — it is repeatability. Instead of buying and configuring another phone every time you travel, the same dedicated device moves through a controlled lifecycle.
The hardware remains. The travel identity does not.
Minimise Exposure. Minimise Persistence.
The system is not based on the assumption that a phone can be made “unhackable”. Instead, it reduces the amount of valuable information that needs to be present on the travel device in the first place.
Managed authorisation in the cloud
Your travel profiles, devices and return policies are managed and audited centrally — so nothing depends on a single device remembering what it should do.
A home provisioning station
Preparation, data extraction and sanitisation happen through a dedicated home station — not in a hotel, airport or destination country. It is designed never to store your passwords or permanent credentials.
Phone-side confirmation
Before anything is wiped or changed, the phone shows a clear, human-readable request and the traveller gives explicit approval. No silent destructive actions.
Profiles, Manifests & Verifiable State
The solution uses profiles to make the desired device state reproducible. A travel profile can specify:
- Approved applications and settings
- Security and privacy settings
- Connectivity requirements
- Payment needs
- Security-tooling requirements
- Data-retention policy
For organisations, this can create a consistent travel-device standard across users and journeys.
Compatibility Is Verified — Not Assumed
A phone being configured successfully does not necessarily mean it is ready for travel. Before the device is declared travel-ready, the profile is checked against what the journey actually needs:
- Payments and contactless support
- Core applications work as expected
- Security settings apply correctly
- Features survive a restart
- Features survive an update
If a required capability fails, the build should not be declared travel-ready.
Optional security tooling
For technical users, travel profiles can include approved security tooling from official sources, configured in the same repeatable way as everything else. The design stays honest about what the hardware can genuinely do.
Designed for Reuse
Security does not have to mean disposable electronics. The traditional burner-phone model treats the hardware as expendable. Our approach is different.
Make the identity disposable — not the device.
The physical phone can be reused while the travel identity and data state are reset between journeys. This supports NALITS Cybersecurity’s interest in combining practical security engineering with more responsible technology use and Green Initiatives.
What the Traveller Gets
Less preparation
Replace hours of manual wiping, installing and configuring with a repeatable provisioning workflow.
Less personal exposure
Leave your primary device and permanent digital identity at home.
More consistency
Use the same approved configuration every time.
Controlled data retention
Bring back only the information you explicitly choose to retain.
Repeatable sanitisation
Return the device to a known clean state after each journey.
Reusable hardware
Reuse the same dedicated travel device instead of repeatedly buying and discarding phones.
Clear verification
Know whether the device is actually ready — and whether the return process actually completed.
Better operational discipline
Separate your everyday digital identity from temporary travel environments.
A Managed Travel-Device Programme
Organisations can define reusable travel profiles for a standardised, auditable travel-device process instead of asking every employee to become an expert in device preparation.
- Standard business travel
- High-risk travel
- Security conferences
- Research assignments
- Temporary overseas deployments
- Executive travel
- Security-testing engagements
Security Embedded Across Engineering
NALITS brings an engineering-led approach to cybersecurity, with security embedded across architecture, automation and delivery. Travel Phone applies that philosophy to a physical device lifecycle — treating the entire journey as a security process.
Keep the Phone. Leave the Baggage Behind.
Your personal phone contains your digital life. Your travel phone doesn’t have to. Prepare a separate device, give it only what the journey requires, use it, bring it home, keep only what matters — then make it forget the trip.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. The concept is a reusable travel-security device. The identity and data state are temporary — the hardware is built to be reused, trip after trip.
No. The purpose is to provide a separate travel environment so that your primary personal device can remain at home.
That is one of the intended use cases. A dedicated travel phone can separate conference activity, research tooling and unfamiliar networks from your everyday personal device.
Yes. The travel workflow is designed to support a local SIM and temporary travel communications.
Travel profiles can include the approved Google and Microsoft applications you need, with temporary travel accounts. Actual sign-in remains subject to the relevant platform requirements.
Contactless payment support can be part of a travel profile — tested on your device before it is declared travel-ready.
Yes. For technical users, profiles can include approved security tooling, configured in the same repeatable way as everything else — using only what the device genuinely supports.
No. The system is designed so that no single component becomes a permanent store of your credentials. Sensitive personal credentials stay under your own control.
No. No credible cybersecurity product should make that claim. The objective is to reduce personal-data exposure and persistence, make provisioning repeatable, and make sanitisation reliable.
On return, the device is restored to a cryptographically clean user-data state using the security features the phone supports — a reliable reset rather than a claim of physically destroying the memory.
Travel Phone is currently in development by NALITS. The roadmap covers the management platform, the home provisioning station and real-device validation. Capabilities and supported devices will be confirmed as validation progresses.
